I am honored to have served as your Island County Sheriff since first being elected in 2018. With 38 years of law enforcement experience, including service with the Island County Sheriff’s Office since 1994, I remain committed to professional, accountable public safety for all our communities.
Throughout my career, I have served as patrol deputy, detective, sergeant, Chief Criminal Deputy, and nearly 8 years as your Sheriff. I also served as U.S. Navy Security Police and as a Reserve Officer with the Oak Harbor Police Department.
My leadership education includes- Northwest Command College; Executive Leadership Institute, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association + thousands of hours of law enforcement training.
Since taking office, I have focused on delivering results: body cameras for every deputy, expanded mental health and opioid outreach, advanced de-escalation and leadership training, and planning for the modern jail and dispatch systems our county needs. I have focused on service, professionalism and accountability as our team values.
Public safety is not about politics – it is about service, integrity, and leadership. I am running without party affiliation because a Sheriff’s responsibility is not partisan.
Island County deserves experienced, steady leadership. I would be honored to earn your vote.

Growing up in Island County, Langley Police Chief Tavier Wasser has carried the lessons of transparency, honesty, and togetherness with him throughout his law enforcement career. After graduating, he joined the US Marine Corps and was one of three Marines selected for the Presidential Security detail, where he honorably protected President Barack Obama.
After returning home, he served as a sheriff’s deputy and today serves Langley as Police Chief and Disaster Response Coordinator. He also trains community members in emergency response (CERT). Tavier has the experience Island County residents want to build a strong, fair, and compassionate sheriff’s office. Tavier has a proven record of responsible public budgeting and community-focused policing.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in our town, cities, and rural areas. As Sheriff, he will increase communications with the public (PIO), support deputies (officer wellness & training), and build trust between law enforcement and the communities.
Tavier, his high school sweetheart wife, and their child are long time Whidbey Island residents. Tavier was honored as the Police Officer of the Year in 2024, employee of the month Island County 2016, and was appointed as the Washington Association of Sheriff and Police Chiefs’ Co-Chair of Public Trust Committee.
