statement appears humanI believe that everyone who walks through Seattle Municipal Court’s doors deserves to be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. Often the first and most frequent point of contact Seattleites have with their elected officials, the Court and its Judges must be equitable, accessible, and just. I have over a decade of diverse legal experience as a public defender in King County and Colorado, handling misdemeanors, juvenile cases, and felonies. I worked with specialty/community courts, in and out of Washington state, and saw the benefits that they can bring to individuals, families, and the broader community. I currently practice civil law and appear in state and federal courts around the state and country. In my spare time, I am also a Pro Tem Judge in Seattle Municipal Court, presiding over pretrial hearings, motions, pleas, and sentencings. These experiences all inform my commitment to justice and community service. Being the first member of my family to graduate from college and law school has helped underscore my priorities: expand meaningful access to justice, reduce barriers for underrepresented communities, and ensure that the Court is truly reflective of this diverse and vibrant city. The Court’s rulings should be firmly rooted in the law yet echo the values of its citizens. As a Judge, I will recognize the humanity of each court participant and my decisions will be based on careful listening, sound judgment, accountability, and rehabilitation. My commitment to equity and justice is reflected in my judicial ratings: Exceptionally Well-Qualified by the Joint Asian Evaluations Committee, Latina/o, and Loren Miller Bar Associations; and Well-Qualified by Q-Law and the King County Bar Association. I am proudly endorsed by retiring Judge Faye Chess, Judge Haydee Vargas, District and County Democrats; Justice Mungia; and more. It will be an honor to serve you.
