Our district is a tremendously diverse and hard-working community, one that I have been proud to call home my entire life. I grew up in the city of SeaTac. Sara and I raised our two children here, they attended our public schools and then went to UW and WSU. As our nation faces unprecedented challenges at home and abroad, I am focused on strengthening the middle class and investing in our future. Working class families, like the union one I grew up in, do not have the same opportunities as previous generations. This needs to change. We must bring down the cost of housing and make homeownership achievable again. We must grow from the middle out, increase economic opportunities, protect unions, expand job training and workforce development programs, create good paying jobs and protect the ones we have. All people, no matter their background, should have access to quality, affordable healthcare. Our healthcare system needs to be restructured to create a path to a single-payer plan like Medicare for All. As the past Chairman and top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, I have also prioritized making sure that all of our service members and their families, no matter who they are, receive the support they need and have earned. I work hard to make sure every person in our district has access to the best this country has to offer; not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because this is also my home–it’s personal to me. It is a true privilege to serve our community and I would be honored to have your vote.

I’m running for Congress because Washington families deserve more than another political revolution. We need an opportunity revolution. The Seattle area helped build some of the greatest companies in the world – Boeing, Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon, Costco, and many more. We became known as a place where ideas could grow, workers could prosper, and families could build a better future. But today, big government policies are making it harder to build, hire, afford, and stay. When we become hostile to the very employers and innovators that created opportunity here, we lose jobs, weaken our economy, and make life harder for working families. Affordability is now a crisis. Families are being squeezed by higher gas prices, energy costs, groceries, housing, insurance, and taxes. The Climate Commitment Act may sound good, but in practice it is driving up the cost of energy while doing little to directly improve the environment. Combined with one of the highest gas taxes in the country, these policies raise transportation, food, and energy costs – and those costs get passed on to families through nearly everything they buy. I believe in family, public safety, faith in God, and faith in each other. We need to love our neighbors again. We have had enough division, anger, and blame. Our problems are real, but we will not solve them by tearing each other apart. I will be a voice of common sense, moderation, and practical solutions in a highly charged political environment. I believe in safer communities, stronger families, lower costs, responsible government, and an economy where everyone has the opportunity to work, build, serve, and thrive. I’m Doug Basler, and I would be honored to earn your vote.
