Leesa Manion
statement appears humanAs King County’s first woman and first person of color to serve as Prosecutor, I have spent the past four years fulfilling my promise to keep our neighborhoods safe, reduce property crime, and protect survivors and the most vulnerable. Keeping that commitment requires proven vision, hands-on leadership and experience – qualities I possess and have strengthened since entering office. Under my leadership, the Prosecutor’s Office prosecutes violent crimes, sexual assaults, and property crimes daily. Since my election, I have expanded support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, invested in alternative sentencing for veterans, youth, and individuals facing behavioral health and addiction challenges, and prioritized juvenile justice reform. My commitment to reducing gun violence shows in a nearly 50% reduction in gun homicides since 2023. I also worked to enact Washington’s strongest Extreme Risk Protection Order policies, a statewide ban on high-capacity magazines and ghost guns, and tools that help law enforcement track weapons used in crime. I am proud of the work accomplished over the past four years: developing fair and effective criminal justice policies and reforms, leading a team of nearly 600 professionals, building trusted partnerships with law enforcement, public defenders, business and community leaders, and advocates for equity and justice. There is still important work to do, and I am ready to continue to ensure that our county is safe for everyone. I am proudly endorsed by former Governors Gary Locke and Christine Gregoire; Executive Girmay Zahilay; former Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell; the Alliance for Gun Responsibility; labor unions, King County Democrat organizations; dozens of county and city leaders; retired justices; and former U.S. Attorneys.
