David S. Mann

statement appears human

Judge David Mann was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee to the State Court of Appeals in 2016, elected to retain his position in 2017, and re-elected in 2020. He has served as the Chief Judge for Division I and is currently the most senior judge on the ten-member court. He is also a member of the State Board of Judicial Administration. Following a career as a geophysicist, Judge Mann earned a law degree 35 years ago and began a successful practice as an environmental and land use lawyer. His skill, depth of knowledge, and commitment to our Northwest values, benefited citizens’ groups, tribes, and individual property owners across the state. He argued significant cases before state and Federal courts, including a successful Freedom of Information Action appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Most cases appealed from Superior Courts go directly to the Court of Appeals, and the Court must accept all appeals filed. Judge Mann has proven himself to be a hard-working member of the judiciary, authoring more than 65 opinions each year dealing with every area of Washington law. He is endorsed by a majority of the current appellate judges and justices in the state.
