Peter Peaquin

statement appears human

Judge Peaquin was appointed to the District Court bench by unanimous vote of the King County Council in 2023 and was retained in his position by the voters in 2024. He brought to the bench more than 30 years’ experience as a practicing attorney. He focused on defending individuals accused of misdemeanor and felony offenses – everything from low level non-violent crimes to murder -- and has tried hundreds of cases to juries. In representing clients from marginalized communities, Judge Peaquin gained insight into the challenges experienced by many who appear in the District Court. In representing individuals experiencing behavioral health issues and addiction, he has knowledge of the complexities of the crisis facing our communities and utilizes this experience in his role presiding over the successful Redmond Community Court for appropriate non-violent offenders to prevent future involvement in the criminal justice system. There, rehabilitative programs are combined with community service and other requirements to ensure accountability and reduce recidivism. Judge Peaquin lives in Kirkland with his wife of 34 years. He is endorsed by the King County Democrats and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM 751).
