statement appears partly AIPlease vote Yes on the Renewal of the Transportation Benefit District. Voting Yes to renew Chehalis’s Transportation Benefit District (TBD) is a vote to maintain safe streets and sidewalks for our community without increasing taxes. This is not a new tax, it simply renews the TBD for another ten years. It does not create a new tax or raise the current tax rate. It extends a proven, local funding source that has helped improve the transportation infrastructure that our community depends on every day. It supports street reconstruction, sidewalk improvements, pedestrian safety projects, and accessibility upgrades that makes Chehalis safer for residents, businesses, visitors, and emergency responders. It also provides local matching funds often required to secure state and federal grants. Originally implemented in 2017, the TBD has generated approximately $11.2 million for local projects that have improved roadways, sidewalks, accessibility, pedestrian safety and aging infrastructure. These include NW Pacific Avenue and SW Chehalis Avenue reconstructions, SW 13th Street, sidewalk and accessibility improvements, and the Downtown Rejuvenation Plan. Renewal of this funding will provide continuing support for such projects as the safe routes to school pedestrian connections, Chamber Way Rail Bridge replacement, downtown rejuvenation plan improvements, and ADA accessibility among other projects. The current funding will expire unless it is renewed. We are asking you to vote Yes to this existing measure for another 10 years.
