Statement For · Unnamed committee
statement appears humanFor the 10 year period of existence ,the Transportation Benefit District, $6.3 million has been put back into the Cities infrastructure. Projects include Brockdale paving, Western Gateway Project, Lake Blvd., Moutainview paving, Civic Center Parking lot, and Safe Routes to school. The money has been spent wisely. While the TBD has generated funding, the General fund is used to supplement projects, and is in completion with other City services, like public safety. If the voters approve a .01% increase to the existing .02% TBD sales tax, it will generate approximately $300,000 per year. This would greatly help the City maintain services and lessen the burden on the General Fund. Street infrastructure is aging, and funding is needed for street and sidewalk maintenance. infrastructure is one of the City’s most valuable investments, and deferred maintenance drives repair costs higher. Outside funding for maintenance and preservation of City streets has been reduced in recent years, so we must help ourselves. While these revenues have decreased, costs continue to rise, making it difficult to preserve and maintain streets and sidewalks. Information available shows that deferred maintenance drives costs even higher, costs double if no maintenance is done in as little as 10 years, and if deferred to 15 years it is 4 times the amount of timely maintenance. By investing an additional 10 cents for every $100 spent, the impact to our city will be greatly appreciated . Citizens for supporting the TBD. Prepared by: Mike Olsen mikeolsen534@gmail.com
