Judge Sonntag is determined to make a positive impact in our Tacoma community, inside and outside the courtroom. Judge Sonntag is the Honorable Robert J. Bryan American Inns of Court Program Chair, UWT Legal Pathways Community Advisory Board member, Tacoma-Pierce County Law Day organizer, YMCA Mock Trial Judge, DMCJA Public Outreach and Therapeutic Court Committee member, National Judicial College member, and Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association Judicial member. In 2023, Judge Sonntag and team launched Behavioral Health Court and Community Court. These programs provide wrap-around case management and accountability for those with underlying conditions. Behavioral Health Court helps individuals with serious and persistent mental health diagnoses. Community Court helps those with mild mental health conditions, substance use disorder, housing instability, and food insecurity. Judge Sonntag is committed to expanding these programs that increase access to justice and provide alternatives to case resolution, reducing recidivism and increasing community safety.
