Modernize County Council Meetings Amendment 52 updates the Pierce County Charter to meet today’s needs. Current Charter language requires the Council to meet at least once during 50 weeks of each calendar year. The amendment instead requires at least 45 meetings each year. This replaces a rigid scheduling rule with a more practical standard while maintaining regular Council meetings. The amendment also requires an option for remote attendance and public comment whenever public comment is required by law or Council rule. By placing this requirement in the Charter, it helps ensure residents who cannot attend meetings in person can still participate. After public review, Amendment 52 was sent to the ballot with overwhelming support from the 2026 Charter Review Commission. With zero votes in opposition, there was broad agreement that these updates would expand public access while preserving the accountability that Pierce County residents expect from their government. Vote yes on Amendment 52.
