Lopez Island Fire & EMS (LIFE), EMTs, Paramedics & Firefighters are available to help you 24 hours a day, year in and year out. Now they need your help. LIFE has maximized available resources in its operations by extending loans, refurbishing vehicles, purchasing used vehicles and equipment, seeking federal and state grants, billing insurance companies to recover some of the District’s cost in providing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and cooperative purchasing agreements. In 2010, Lopez Island Fire & EMS developed a 10-year plan. In 2014, the citizens passed a Fire Levy of $.83 per $1,000 dollars of assessed valuation. It has now been 12 years since the last Fire Levy. LIFE achieved this goal through careful planning and conservative spending. Funds from this Levy will be used to maintain the high-level emergency services LIFE provides to our community by continuing LIFE’s Strategic Plan begun in 2005, continued with the 2014 levy increase, and continuing the updated 2021 plan and beyond. LIFE is proud to serve our Community’s needs. LIFE is proposing adding a $.27 Levy Lift to $.74 per $1000. LIFE is also asking for an increase in the Levy Rate of 3%, to help combat inflation, instead of the standard 1% limit. I urge you all to vote yes on this Levy! Written by Jim Ghiglione
