statement appears humanIn January of 2021, Judge Nielsen was selected by the Skagit County District Court Judges to be their court commissioner. In February of 2024, Judge Nielsen was selected by the Skagit County Commissioners to fill the vacant judicial position. Prior to moving to the bench, in January of 2007, Judge Nielsen accepted a job with the Skagit County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Judge Nielsen handled a felony caseload, which encompassed everything from theft to murder cases. A good part of his caseload dealt with handling highly sensitive and difficult cases related to computer facilitated crimes, child victim crimes, and serious violent crimes. From 2001 - 2006, Judge Nielsen’s private practice consisted of representing clients in criminal cases, domestic relations cases, personal injury, and L & I. Judge Nielsen strives to be very prepared, informed, and open-minded for those appearing in front of him. Court is often intimidating for individuals whether they are a party to a case or even a witness. It is important to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to be heard. Judge Nielsen’s experience in private practice, prosecution, and on the bench makes him well equipped to continue to serve as a District Court Judge.
