Proposition 262 modernizes Everett’s City Charter by improving flexibility and making more efficient use of staff time and taxpayer dollars. By requiring at least thirty-six City Council meetings each year, including no fewer than two per month, Proposition 262 gives the City Council flexibility to meet when city business requires it, while providing predictable opportunities for residents to participate. Everett’s current requirement of forty-eight City Council meetings each year was set decades ago. Today, that requirement can result in meetings with limited agendas held mainly to meet a numerical target, which can waste taxpayer dollars and resources. A vote for Proposition 262 makes the Everett City Council more effective and cost efficient for residents of Everett for many years to come.
