Thank you for allowing me to occupy the Office of Sheriff for the past 71⁄2 years. I look forward to serving you for 41⁄2 more. During the next term I have three main goals. Increase Manpower: The national rate of law enforcement officers is 2.4 per thousand residents. Washington average is 1.37 per thousand but we only have .88 per thousand in unincorporated Stevens County. This is a problem. Succession planning: Nearly 1/3 of our agency is/will be eligible to retire in the next 1-5 years. We’re trying to train/prepare our future leaders. Infrastructure: Get the jail built and open!
