I would like to thank the citizens of Thurston County for giving me the honor of serving as Thurston County District Court Judge for the past eighteen years. Thurston County District Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. District Court’s jurisdiction includes criminal misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors. District Court also handles civil cases up to $100,000.00. District Court also addresses civil anti-harassment orders, small claims and traffic infractions. District Court is a high-volume court that has contact with more citizens than any other court in Thurston County. District Court recently expanded to provide municipal court services to Olympia and Tenino. District Court now provides service to unincorporated Thurston County and municipal court services for the cities of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, Rainier and Tenino. District Court is especially proud of its very successful therapeutic courts. Defendants who take advantage of District Court’s Mental Health Court and/or Veterans Court are follow specialized plans to address the underlying issues that brought them into the criminal justice system. Participants in the therapeutic courts are held accountable through close supervision and frequent in-court reviews. I very much appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve Thurston County as District Court Judge.
